Unit 8
The two practices I found most beneficial would be the subtle mind exercise and the visualization exercise. I found the subtle mind exercise as the most relaxing and the visualization exercise helped on focusing the mind. These practices could be used in my personal life to foster "mental fitness." There are times when I feel stressed out or overwhelmed during the week, and if I use one of these practices for a couple minutes at a time during the week, then I can re-align my focus and be able to go about my day stress free or worry free. Like I said in earlier post I don't particularly like to meditate on a regular basis, but there is a time and place for everything, and it is a learning process for me.

Hi Mike,
ReplyDeleteI agree, there is a time and place for everything. We don't have to become a monk and hide away from life situations to meditate. Our bodies will let us know when we have not taken care of ourselves; all we have to do is listen. Letting go of stress lowers blood pressure and hypertension. After emergency situations, when we have been in the flight or fight stress mode, taking a few minutes to meditate and bring the body back into a less stress free zone is important for homeostasis.
Enjoy a stressfree weekend,
Deb
Hi Mike:
ReplyDeleteI know you said that you do not like to meditate, but if you are to live a stress free life then meditative practice should be a part of your life. For me personally, once I find a holistic way of obtaining health, I tend to throw myself into it because I dislike taking medication of any sort. I know some people who take Prozac and things of that nature to calm them down. There are many side effects to these medications, so it’s beyond me why people opt for a pill rather than some discipline of sitting for half-an-hour or so doing deep breathing and training the mind to relax.
Mike,
ReplyDeleteLike you I am a huge fan of the Subtle Mind Exercise. I have personally incorporated it into my weekly meditation practices.I understand what you saying about not having a set time to meditate. I believe one must do what works for them. Incorporating more meditation, along with deep breathing and also my yoga practice is beneficial to me personally. I believe you seek what you need when you need it. Good luck Mike!
