1. In terms of physical well being I rate myself at an 8, I am happy with my physical well being and I feel healthy and energetic, but there is always room for improvement. I am currently competing in crossfit events and I want to be stronger and faster in all aspects of fitness, so that leaves me with goals to follow. For spiritual well being I rate myself at a 7. I am not a very religious person, but I do like to incorporate religion in my life, and I think it is important for human development. My psychological well-being would be an 8 as well. I really don't like to rate anything at a 9 or 10 because those would be near perfection and I always see room for improvement, but anyway I believe I have strong mind and I can do anything that I focus and strive for.
2. A goal for my physical well being is to be stronger. More specifically I want to deadlift 400+ pounds and squat 300+ pounds. I am currently near my goal, but hopefully soon.
My spiritual goal would be to make a connection with God at least once a week. Whatever it may be, prayer, going to church, etc. My psychological goal is ongoing and it is to never stop striving to become better, so that pretty much means persistence and dedication in whatever I may be doing.
3. As far as activities or exercises I can do to get me closer to each goal. Physically I will train harder and train more often with quality workouts that benefit me in reaching my goal. Spiritually I will just have to be consistent and make a conscious effort to pray more and go to church. Psychologically, I will constantly better myself by continuing education and allow myself free time to clear my mind every now and then to relieve stressors in my life.
4. I personally don't like doing relaxation exercises like The crime of the century. I don't like people telling me what to do. I like to relax when I want to relax. I can't relax in the middle of doing school work such as this blog. I just want to finish it and then I can relax afterwards. I can doing breathing techniques and visualization on my own, but that's not how I personally like to relax.
Mike,
ReplyDeleteI admire your tenacity and dedication. I am not so much of a weight lifter, I got too muscular in college when I was 19. I do however really like to run. I find it invigorating and once I get past that "hump" and find my rhythm I find it very relaxing. I guess I am a breather. By that I mean I find a lot of relaxation in breath control and imagery. I have to agree with you when you say it's hard to relax when you have to do a chore after a relaxation exercise. May I suggest that you try to put the work you have to do afterwards out of your mind and just listen to the sound of the guy's voice and try to not hear him tell you what to do so much as listen to his words as suggestions. It's just a thought that may help you get a better benefit from the exercise. I hope you achieve your goals of weightlifitng excellence!

Hi Mike, Great Post! and good for you in your path to great physical well being. It really is a great feeling when you are active in exercise because it gives you this burst of high energy feeling. I used to work out a lot before and for the past few years I have started working out but than just stop. My life is so busy that I don't find the time (that I should ) to dedicate for me. But I am working on that goal and plan to get in the gym again. Good luck on your future goals.
ReplyDeleteHello Mike,
ReplyDeleteFrom your rating you are in a very good place. Thats awesome! I have recently gotten very interested in crossfit, and find it to be an intense sport. I do believe when I get back home in a week or so I may try it out to transform my physical body the rest of the way I want it to be. As for the relaxing exercises normally I don't love them either, but I am starting to understand the premiss and why it could work. I guess that is the first step. I tried really hard, but when relaxing you shouldn't have to try really hard. Seems as though it is a learned thing to meditate or relax in such a way. Great blog this week, and good luck with your goals!
Hi Mike,
ReplyDeleteLike you, I don't really like the relaxation exercises. I find that when I am doing them, I can't relax because all I can think about is it ending so I can do my blog. I wish this wasn't the case. Sometimes I can focus on what the guy is saying, but most of the time I am very much so distracted by other thoughts. The exercises seem to be so long, maybe if they were shorter I could enjoy them more.
